Chef Mimi : Connection, Inclusion, and the Food Experience

Season 1, Episode 3

In this podcast we talk with Chef Mimi. Chef Mimi is a Culinary Artist, Community strategist and Mother whose focus is to bring diversity and inclusion into the food space. As an African-American Chef, her mission has been to create space for Chefs to express their culinary skills without being told or limited to a narrative such as – Black Chefs only can cook Soul Food or BBQ. Chef Mimi believes that regardless of your class or ethnicity, “We are all connected through food.”

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How we should consider thinking about our food beyond our cultural tendencies, families, and systems.
  • How Chef Mimi is creating content including ‘Bringing It To The Table’ which is the first food competition showcasing African-American Chefs (many of which we know from the Food Network), Corporate Catering, and Live Food and Wine Experiences.
  • How to explore going Vegan or plant-based as a food option.
  • African-Americans within the business of food, as Chefs, manufacturers, and growers.
  • Chef Mimi’s suggestion on how all of us can expand our food experiences.

Envelop Immersive Audio : Sound As The New Health

Season 1, Episode 2

Who would have thought I could have almost three dozen music speakers around my head and have one of the most enjoyable sound experiences ever! In this episode, I visit the Envelop Studio to talk to Christopher and Jamil about how they take the music we’ve heard for years, integrate it into immersive audio technology, and give it back to us in ways that are different than anything we’ve heard. But the most interesting part is what it does for us. If you “dig” sound (for example, John Coltrane, Sade, Daft Punk, or the birds chirping outside your window) then you must listen to this interview.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • What is Envelop and why does it exist.
  • Why what they do matters to us socially, emotionally, and to our health
  • How they make this experience attractive.
  • Outside of Envelop. How can we benefit from sound right this instant?

Today’s Guest

Christopher Willits and Jamil Lea, Envelop
Envelop is a nonprofit that amplifies the power of music through immersive listening experiences.
